My aesthetic draws from traditions of the African diaspora, queer and disability culture and postmodern techniques. Initially focused solely on blackness & the legacies of black folk, my creative work has shifted to exploring multiple intersections. Most present is the intersection of disability and race. I am committed to crafting transgressive art. Dance that affirms disabled bodies and their contribution to the field. Dance expressive of the black body; both individually and historically. Dance reflecting an expansive form that moves beyond how dancers have been often taught to uphold and refine, and acknowledges the body we grow into as we move through our lives. These dances are my response to the social and political tensions existing in the physical body today. As some bodies are silenced and committed to eternal stillness, it is critical that all bodies move and are witnessed moving –in public streets, open spaces, and on formal stages.
