Artist Statement
I use movement as a way to share stories of my Black, queer and Two-Spirit journey while living in the United States. I am a dancer, a choreographer and I guide others through a process of movement that includes Modern, Jazz, House, Vogue and other forms of dance from the African diaspora. My work opens up space for my ancestors, Black women/ womyn/ womxn and Black Trans/GNC and Two-Spirit voices to live. Centering Black voices and Black bodies are the most important parts of creating work. Finally, contrast is very important to me. Beauty/ugly, joy/pain and soft/hard. Using these elements centers me in my work and allows me to always honor Black voices.
