Artist Statement
I make work that is direct and about life, using every medium at my disposal. As a composer, stand-up comic, writer, and trumpet player, I have the fairly unique luxury of taking on a single topic--illness, death, parents--from multiple artistic angles. It's deeply meaningful to me to work closely with the Seattle artistic community, working with the same circle of musicians for over a decade. My work is expansive yet intimate, relatable on a massive scale yet rooted in a very specific place. My next show is about my mother. Everyone has a mother or knows a mother. This isn't a tribute or a condemnation, just an account of a life in progress in an ugly, beautiful, unfair world.
