Artist Statement
We are a cultural organizing project that uses art to model, imagine, and advocate for alternatives to youth incarceration. We firmly believe in the power of art and culture to shift policies and practices. We believe in a world without youth prisons. And we believe that youth are the experts policymakers should listen to. We provide direct services and support to youth navigating the justice system in Richmond, Virginia, and we collaborate with young people impacted by the justice system across the country to create art and cultural organizing strategies about their vision of a world without youth prisons. In collaboration with youth justice campaigns, that work is used to advance local, state, and national policies that end youth incarceration. Additional support comes from the Art for Justice Fund, Kresge Foundation, and Public Welfare Foundation.
