Artist Statement
I’m an interdisciplinary artist. My work considers, exaggerates and alters the accepted rules of everyday life, extending the familiar into the realms of the poetic and absurd. I pay close attention to lived experience, then manifest situations that make visible usually overlooked circumstances. I achieve this by creating tight conceptual frameworks onto which familiar experiences can be arranged and reconfigured. I strive for the simplest resolution of an idea, ideally one that carries poetry and humor bound up within it. Through my projects, I’ve filmed one person of every age from one to 100, looked for everyone mentioned by name in a German newspaper and worked with blind artists to re-create Brancusi’s Sculpture for the Blind from a spoken description. I'm the founder of An Artist Residency in Motherhood, a self-directed, open-source artist residency program that takes place inside the homes and lives of artist/parents. There are currently over 650 participants in 44 countries.
