Holly Nordlum

I am Holly Mititquq Nordlum and my work reflects where I come from but also who I am now, an Urban woman, a mother, and a working native artist. I was born and raised outside the Alaskan Inuit village of Kotzebue or Qikiktugruq, above the arctic circle on the Northwest Coast. I am a printmaker, painter, activist, filmmaker and sculptor and  I use these skills to express ideas about life and social issues of native people in todays world.  Most recently I have been working to rivitalize traditional Inuit tattooing and train women in Alaska to create a specialized apprenticeship program that will continue to train women to traditionally tattoo so that this is never lost I received a Bachelor of Fine Art Degree in Graphic Design and Photography from the University of Alaska, Anchorage and have been awarded a Rasmuson Individual Artist Award, AK Visionary Award and NMAI Artist  Leadership Program and Named a Sundance Institutes Time Warner Fellow and an Anchorage Museum's Polar Lab Artist.
